Money of Wales

All UK coins are actually made in Wales. The Royal Mint  is based in Llantrisant, South East Wales. It doesn't just make coins for the UK either. It is known throughout the world for its long tradition of craftsmanship and the high quality of its coins. It is actually the world's leading export mint, producing coins for some 60 different countries around the world.

The pound sterling is the oldest currency currently in existence, with origins dating back to continental Europe.

The name of this coin comes from the Latin word "libra", which refers to the weight or balance. For more than 300 years, thebank of englandhas been responsible for issuing the tickets and, during this time, they have undergone constant changes.

The first pound coin did not appear until 1489, when Henry VII reigned. Banknotes began circulating in England shortly after the Bank of England was created in 1694 and were initially written by hand. The pound began with its complex system of shillings and pence until the decimal system arrived in 1971.

In 1660, coin minting began to be mechanized, and design features such as edge lettering were introduced to prevent filing.

The pound sterling has also survived as an independent currency when most of the rest of Europe adopted the euro as its single currency, which, at the beginning of the 21st century, seemed like the likely fate of the pound sterling as well.

Regarding the Scottish pound, it continued until the Union Act of 1707 created a monetary set based on the value of a pound south of the border. The Bank of Scotland had been created in 1695, a year after the Bank of England, and survives today as part of HBOS, a subsidiary of Edinburgh-based Lloyds Banking Group.
